Hey, I’m Demi — and I believe life abroad should feel as bold, beautiful, and empowered as you are.

A few years ago, I left a long career in construction management, packed my bags, and decided I wanted to see more of the world — not just for a vacation, but to actually experience what it’s like to live somewhere completely different.

That decision eventually took me to Pattaya, Thailand, and after traveling to nearly 30 countries, I can tell you one thing:

Travel will teach you some lessons the hard way.

And that’s really how Demi Abroad started.

I learned a lot by getting things wrong

When you travel to another country, nobody meets you at the airport and hands you a list of all the things you’re not supposed to do.

You usually find out after you’ve already done it.

Sometimes it’s harmless. You use the wrong greeting, stand somewhere you shouldn’t, tip when you weren’t supposed to, or do something that makes the locals look at you like, “What is she doing?”

But sometimes the consequences are a lot more serious.

There are things we do every day in the U.S. that can get you fined, detained, kicked out of a country, or even arrested somewhere else.

And “I didn’t know” usually isn’t going to get you out of it.

That’s why I created Demi Abroad.

I don’t just want to tell you about beautiful beaches, great restaurants, and all the places you should visit. I want to tell you the stuff you really need to know before you get there.

What’s considered rude?

What should you never do?

What laws do tourists accidentally break?

What’s actually going to happen if you break one?

Because those are the things I wish somebody had explained to me.

Why Demi Abroad matters to me

I didn’t grow up thinking I would one day be living overseas and traveling around the world.

For a long time, international travel felt like something other people did.

Then I started doing it.

I’m a Black American woman who built a life beyond the one I knew, and I did a lot of it without a blueprint. If sharing what I’ve learned makes the next woman feel a little more confident about booking that flight, using that passport, or finally going somewhere she’s been dreaming about, then Demi Abroad is doing exactly what I want it to do.

But you don’t have to look like me, travel like me, or want to move overseas.

Maybe you’re getting ready to use your passport for the first time.

Maybe you’re on country number twenty.

Either way, there’s always something you don’t know until somebody tells you.

So I’m going to tell you before you get there.
